What to Expect in Therapy

Core Beliefs

Explore core beliefs - our deeply held principles that shape our actions, emotions, and responses. These beliefs are formed during childhood and adolescence and continue to influence how we show up as adults. They shape the way we view the world and the people around us.

Trauma Work

We use a combination of Internal Family Systems to explore your history and different parts, Attachment theory to understand your connections with others, and Brain spotting to help you regain a sense of self and safety.

Family History

We can explore your family’s ecosystem, examining how you interact with one another, how emotions are handled, patterns that have been passed down, and the unspoken rules everyone follows.

Relationship Patterns

We help you understand how you communicate and show up in relationships. If needed, we support you in learning how to navigate relationships more effectively, set boundaries, develop secure attachments, and communicate more openly.

Inner Child Work

We take the time to understand all sides of you. Each part of you holds truths about what you’ve experienced throughout your life. Some parts carry heavy burdens, while others work to protect you at all costs.

Skill Building

We work collaboratively to provide you with a range of strategies to address various challenges. Drawing from multiple therapeutic approaches, we equip you with coping skills to manage thoughts, improve interpersonal relationships, enhance mindfulness, build distress tolerance, regulate emotions, and more.

FAQs

  • You can attend therapy in whichever way feels most comfortable for you! For some, telehealth is easier, more convenient, and feels safer. Others prefer to meet with their therapist in person. The choice is entirely yours!

  • We are not paneled with any insurance companies; however, you may be able to get reimbursed through your insurance. We would be happy to provide you with the necessary documents to facilitate reimbursement.

JHC is not contracted with insurance companies for several reasons. One key reason is that this allows us greater flexibility, enabling us to avoid the restrictions imposed by third-party payers. This ensures that we can provide you with the highest quality service possible.

We accept all major credit cards and FSA/HSA cards as forms of payment.

  • Talk therapy often focuses on addressing a person's thoughts, emotions, and memories they can access. Holistic therapy treats the whole body, emphasizing the body's role in processing emotions and experiences and using body-centered techniques like movement, touch, brain spotting and breathwork.

  • First: It all starts with a free consultation where we address your needs and ensure that we are a good fit for you.

Second: We'll get you scheduled for an intake session. Between the consultation and the intake session, you'll need to fill out some short paperwork.

Next: We meet weekly for sessions to build the therapeutic relationship.

Lastly: You improve your situation and accomplish the goals you set in therapy.

  • Counseling offers a distinct approach compared to speaking with a friend with its professional expertise, neutrality, confidentiality, and organized structure. Counselors are trained to provide evidence-based advice, uphold strict confidentiality, and use specialized methods to address mental health and personal growth. They are impartial, focusing entirely on your needs without personal biases. While friends can offer emotional support, they may not have the same professional training, objectivity, or confidentiality, and their guidance can be shaped by personal experiences and emotions. Counseling creates a more tailored, structured, and confidential environment for tackling complex issues and fostering growth.

  • Brainspotting is used to address unresolved trauma. For it to be effective in a therapy setting, the client must trust and feel safe with the therapist. Once the client feels secure, the clinician helps activate the emotions tied to the traumatic event. Then, the clinician uses a pointer to guide the client in finding a spot in their vision, which helps the brain process the event.

  • We take an interdisciplinary approach to therapy, treating each person as an individual. By drawing on multiple disciplines, we tailor our methods to best address each person’s unique needs. This ensures that everyone who attends therapy here receives a personalized approach.
